Norwich’s growing insurtech sector is creating exciting career opportunities, and Charlotte’s journey is proof of what’s possible.

After relocating to Norwich from Scotland, Charlotte joined Pikl at a pivotal stage in the company’s growth. Today, as Head of Financial Control, she is helping support the continued expansion of one of the city’s fastest-growing insurtech businesses.

Her path to Norwich followed a varied career across Stoke-on-Trent and Scotland, where she qualified as a chartered accountant and built experience spanning shipping, rail, education, fintech and financial services. Together, Charlotte’s story and Pikl’s success demonstrate how Norwich is attracting talented professionals and ambitious businesses alike.

Founded in Norwich by insurance professionals who spotted a gap in the market, Pikl has grown from a niche insurance provider into a rapidly scaling technology-led business helping holiday operators offer flexible cancellation products.

For Charlotte, the company’s growth trajectory highlights something increasingly important about Norwich.

“There’s a real opportunity here for businesses that want to innovate,” she says.

Over the past year alone, Pikl has grown from around 30 employees to approximately 70, with plans for significant further expansion. It’s the kind of growth story that demonstrates how Norwich’s established financial services sector is helping create the next generation of businesses.

The city combines the credibility of a major insurance hub with an entrepreneurial culture that encourages new ideas, making it an attractive base for startups and scale-ups alike. That combination has helped Norwich develop strengths across finance, insurance, digital technology and creative industries.

Working in the city comes with some great perks.

Lunchtime walks through the Lanes, visits to the market and a short commute offer a balance that many larger cities struggle to match.

Outside work, the Norfolk coast is never far away.

From Wells-next-the-Sea and Cromer to National Trust sites across the county, Charlotte has spent the last few years exploring the region with her husband acting as tour guide.

“It’s the best of both worlds,” she says. “You’ve got the city during the week and the coast at the weekend.“

One thing Charlotte has noticed since moving to Norwich is how connected the local business community feels.

Whether through finance, insurance or technology, professional networks overlap in a way that’s unusual for a city of Norwich’s size. Conversations quickly uncover mutual contacts, shared experiences and opportunities to collaborate.

“I feel like everybody knows someone,” she says.

That sense of connection creates an environment where people are willing to share knowledge, support each other’s careers and help businesses grow.

For growing companies such as Pikl, access to experienced talent and industry expertise is a significant advantage. For professionals, it creates a network that can open doors and create opportunities.
