Faith Moyosore Agboola is a writer, performer and producer endorsed by Arts Council England, she knew that her journey would bring her to the UK. What she didn’t yet know was which city would become home.

I had choices. Leicester, where I studied, London, with all its familiarity and pace, and Norwich. On paper, Norwich stood out confidently, and that mattered to me.

I come from Lagos, Nigeria, a city full of energy, movement, and ambition.

As I weighed my options, Norwich kept calling to me. Friends spoke about its creativity.

My partner was already here. And the more I researched, the more I saw a city deeply invested in stories, learning, and cultural growth. As England’s first UNESCO City of Literature and home to the National Centre for Writing, Norwich has built a reputation for nurturing writers and creatives, not just celebrating them.

I decided to trust that pull and move here, telling myself I would try it for a few months. If it didn’t fit, I could always leave.

What I found instead was a city that gave me exactly what I did not know I needed.

Norwich offers a rare balance. It is alive with creative activity, yet it leaves space for new ideas to breathe.

There is enough happening to inspire you, and enough room to create something new without being overwhelmed. That balance has shaped both my personal life and my professional work.

As a poet and performer, Norwich was where my UK journey truly began.

My first performance in the UK took place here. Not long after, Norwich also hosted my first headline show, at Norwich Arts Centre, a moment that felt both grounding and affirming. Audiences here listened deeply. They connected, stayed behind, asked questions, and supported my work. That sense of openness made transitioning to a new country feel possible.

What I also love is that Norwich welcomes voices from elsewhere.

Artists touring nationally and internationally come through the city, creating opportunities for collaboration and exchange.

It never feels closed off. It feels connected.

AFM Stories and Faiths’ work supporting students

Alongside my creative work, I run AFM Stories, an initiative grounded in the belief that everyone deserves access to opportunity. We support people from underrepresented backgrounds to pursue education and career pathways they may not have thought possible.

In Norwich, AFM Stories has found fertile ground.

Our flagship in‑person event, Opportunity Bridge, brings people together for a day of shared learning, mentoring, and connection. We invite speakers who have overcome barriers in education, careers, and business.

The event has been supported by local institutions, including the University of East Anglia, whose commitment to employability and inclusion has been instrumental in my work here.

Institutions like UEA and the National Centre for Writing have played a huge role in my sense of belonging. I have performed at Dragon Hall, taken part in writing sessions, attended courses, and delivered employability workshops. Some of my poems have been used within university teaching, which has been deeply affirming.

These institutions do not feel distant. They feel open, collaborative, and invested in the city’s creative ecosystem.

To anyone considering a move, whether you are creative, ambitious, curious, or simply looking for a place that feels human, I would say this.

Norwich is a city that knows where it is going. It carries its history proudly while actively shaping its future. It attracts people who want to build something meaningful, and it gives them the space to do just that.

I came here with uncertainty and an open mind. What I found was a city of stories willing to make room for mine, and eager to hear what comes next.
