Beneath Norwich’s historic charm lies a thriving network of companies developing cutting-edge technologies that reach markets across the globe.

When we recently connected with Hethel Innovation, we uncovered just how dynamic Norwich’s ecosystem of advanced engineering and manufacturing is. But Norwich’s story doesn’t stop there. In exploring further, we discovered a remarkable success: an award-winning company whose fire equipment is trusted by more than 92% of the UK’s Fire and Rescue Services.

Delta Fire has been designing and manufacturing frontline firefighting equipment for over 35 years. Founded in the 1990s, the company began by supplying fire and rescue services but has steadily diversified. Today, Delta Fire serves sectors as varied as energy, defence, construction, marine, offshore petrochemical, aviation, and utilities.

Delta fire supplies 92% of the UK’s Fire and Rescue Services.

We spoke to Jordon, Head of Operations & Business Development about the company, from its beginnings to how its Norwich headquarters is now setting the standard for sustainability in the industry.

Winners of the King’s Award for Innovation and Sustainable Development.

In 2025 Delta Fire won the innovation award that recognised their Attack Fire Nozzles, which are manufactured through advanced engineering.

The sustainable development award reflected their ongoing commitment to becoming the most sustainable manufacturer in their sector, and beyond.

“Sustainability runs through everything we do.”

When Delta Fire transitioned from a rented facility to its new £5.5 million purpose-built site in Norwich, sustainability was placed at the heart of the design. The building was developed from the ground up with green technologies, earning it an A-grade energy rating.

The site incorporates air source heat pumps, 648 solar panels, a 300-kilowatt battery, and a smart energy management system. Heat from manufacturing is captured and reused, while rainwater is harvested for site maintenance.

A boost for Norwich

Even though their relocation was local the Norwich site was chosen for its strategic position and growing reputation as a hub for innovation and sustainability. The new facility strengthens local employment and supply partnerships while contributing to the city’s ambitions for green growth.

Investing in Partnerships and Talent in the Region

“The average length of employment is over a decade, which we believe reflects our culture.”

When they relocated, they made sure their new site remained easily accessible, keeping travel times short for their team.

“Recruitment is focused locally, and we’ve built strong partnerships with UEA and City College.

Apprenticeships have been central to our growth—at one point, 10% of our workforce were apprentices, many of whom are now full-time employees.”

“We’re also fortunate to be part of a thriving business community in Norwich and Norfolk.”

Jordon spoke in high regard for local councils and sector groups such as New Anglia Advanced Engineering and Manufacturing, and the Greater Norwich Manufacturing Group, as they have provided valuable support that has helped them grow.
